Instructional Animations
These animations, created in Adobe After Effects, were designed to be viewed in-app to aid users when taking a medical test sample at-home. For example, how to use a nasal swab or take a blood sample.

The Problem
Users may take test samples incorrectly, especially if there are only text-based instructions that are often overwhelming or not read fully A visual supplement alongside written instructions helps the user understand the instructions and feel more confident taking the test..
Requirements:
1-2 minute videos that are also able to be split into 2-second gifs for step-by-step instructions.
Prioritise vertical format for mobile
Non-region or language specific
Meet regulatory standards
Small file size to not make the app size too heavy
Why animation?
When the brief was presented, I debated whether live-recorded footage or animation would work best – both had positives and challenges.
Due to the nature of the MedTech, it was expected there would be many changes in requirements along the way. Animation allows for much quicker and easier revisions than having to re-record footage. Animation is also more easily translated for deployment into other languages and regions.
Successfully meeting changing requirements
While I made minor updates and improvements to the videos based on user feedback, there were several major revisions due to other circumstances – such as a change in manufacturers (meaning the components designs had to be updated), or usability studies resulting in a change to the test sampling method.
